Founded by Olga Weijers and Dragos Calma in 2012, the Societas Artistarum brings together scholars from all around the World interested in the teaching of philosophy within medieval universities and in the thought of the masters of the arts .

After the first official colloquium in 2015, organized by Charles Burnett at the Warburg Institute in London, four other major conferences (Rencontres de la Societas Artistarum) followed, which were respectively held in Prague, Porto, Milan, and Trento.

Since 2012, the series Studia Artistarum and Studies on the Faculty of Arts. History and Influence have published nearly thirty volumes, ranging from monographs and conference proceedings to editions of sources and documents related to the history of medieval universities.

Since 2023, the Inquisitiones workshop offers younger members of the Society the opportunity to share ongoing research and to receive advice from the rest of the scholarly community.
